What to Do with Old DVDs

Store DVDs Efficiently

If the main issue with the old DVDs has to do with space, finding a way to store them can be a big help. Many options exist for storing DVDs. Some allow for easy access with the trade off of not projecting the discs as well. Others project the discs but aren't as convenient.
  • DVD sleeves in a bin: Take the discs out of the cases. Store the cases separately. Put all the sleeved discs in a bin or a drawer. Alphabetize them for easy access.
  • DVD case: Put the discs in a book allowing easy access by flipping through them.
  • DVD Wall Mount Shelf: Mount a shelf on the wall that can hold the DVDs in a more out of the way place.

Digitize the Movies

With new services and technologies there will always be new ways of creating and maintaining a digital movie collection. These are just a few ways to turn old DVDs into a digital collection.
  • Rip the DVDs using a computer and DVD reader. Store the videos on a hard drive or media server such as plex.
  • Use a Disc to Digital service like VUDU to gain access to the movies on streaming services. This can allow you to upgrade to full HD quality.
